John Lewis has announced a £24m refurbishment of its Edinburgh store that will include a new shopping floor, new cafe and new tech product area.
The 160,000 sq ft store anchors the St James Centre, which is also being refurbished, and part of the spend on the John Lewis store will contribute to making it more shoppable while the wider works are taking place.
Work on the store began last year and included a new entrance on Leith Street, more parking and a customer collections area for click & collect. At the end of the month, it will opening an entirely new fifth floor housing a new The Place to Eat offering views over the city and the retailer’s new “Smart Home” concept.
Beauty has been revamped and relocated to the second floor while in August a new furniture department will be located on the fourth floor. The revised layout will remain in place until the centre renovations are complete in 2020.
“This is one of the biggest refurbishments the shop has seen in its 43 years and an incredibly exciting moment in our history,” said head of brand Barry Blamire.
“As the retail landscape changes, we adapt and evolve our shops to ensure we continue to meet our customers’ needs and expectations. This major investment will give customers more interactive shopping experiences while retaining the same excellent level of service from our Partners,” he said.
